Section 1: General Course FAQs
What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a skilled clinical technique using thin, solid needles to release neuromuscular trigger points, reduce pain, improve mobility, and a lot more good stuff. This is all accomplished through specifically targeting and regulating the autonomic nervous system toward more homeostasis.
How does dry needling differ from acupuncture?
Acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is awesome, while dry needling is based on Western neuroanatomy, physiology, and musculoskeletal science. Also awesome. Both use needles, but the intention and application are totally different. However, the overall goal of both treatments is to reduce sympathetic autonomic activity, elevate parasympathetic activity, and achieve maximal autonomic nervous system homeostasis, the key to health. Hence the awesomeness.
Who is eligible to take an online dry needling CEU course?
Courses are designed for licensed healthcare providers and are Board-Certified and accredited to provide CEU credit for medical practitioners to renew their medical licenses. However, anyone interested in gaining the most advanced knowledge and understanding of dry needling, stuff I teach to other doctors to improve the health of their patients, is welcome to sign up!
Are online dry needling courses as effective as in-person training?
It’s different. They are both great. I do not teach the physical skill of dry needling in our online courses. That you have to learn in-person, for obvious safety reasons. Our online dry needling courses teach how to think about dry needling with the specific intent of targeting the autonomic nervous system to induce as much homeostasis as possible each time we treat our patients. We call this our autonomic nervous system-centered approach to dry needling. You will learn all about the autonomic nervous system, how dry needling affects it, and how we can leverage these things to our advantage to make massive improvements in people’s health and quality of life.
How many CEUs can I earn from online dry needling courses?
Each course provides a set number of CEUs, accredited by state and national boards. These hours count toward your license renewal. Online Dry Needling 1 is 15 CEUs and Online Dry Needling 2 is 10 CEUs. This is a great way for New Jersey Physical Therapists to satisfy the 10 CEUs of dry needling education the board requires each license renewal period.
Do online dry needling courses count toward license renewal?
Yes. Our courses provide Board-Certified & Accredited CEUs that fulfill renewal requirements for Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Athletic Trainers, Occupational Therapists, Chiropractors, and other clinicians. Clinicians are always required to ensure they understand what is within their scope of practice per their governing board or agency.

Section 3: Clinical & Patient Outcomes
How does dry needling affect the autonomic nervous system?
Dry needling reduces chronic sympathetic hyperactivity, helping patients move from fight-or-flight into homeostatic healing. This shift accelerates healing and pain relief.
What conditions benefit most from dry needling?
Dry Needling is our most powerful tool to induce autonomic nervous system homeostasis. I do not know of a single mental or physical impairment that’s gets worse as the autonomic nervous system becomes more homeostatic.
Is dry needling effective for chronic pain patients?
Yes. Obvious clinical evidence, along with years of research studies show dry needling decreases pain sensitivity, improves mobility, and helps patients break free from chronic pain cycles. This is all accomplished through regulation of the autonomic nervous system.
Can dry needling improve mobility and athletic performance?
Absolutely. By reducing sympathetic neuromuscular tension and improving nervous system homeostasis, athletes recover faster and perform better.
What are the risks of dry needling if not performed correctly?
Risks are minimal when taught properly but most commonly may include soreness, bruising, or temporary discomfort. Proper training ensures safe application.
Section 4: Course Logistics
How long does it take to complete an online dry needling CEU course?
Our courses can be completed in 5, 10, or 15 hours, depending on your pace.
Is the course self-paced or scheduled?
Our online courses are 100% self-paced, letting you fit CEUs into your schedule. We also have a live-online course that is more structured and is 10 CEUs. We do this course for 5 hours a day on two consecutive days, typically Saturday-Sunday.

Section 6: Advanced/Expert-Level Questions
Can dry needling regulate chronic sympathetic autonomic nervous system hyperactivity?
Yes. This is the primary mechanism through which dry needling works. The overall effect of dry needling is sympathetic depression and parasympathetic elevation compared to baseline. If this underlying fact is leveraged, magical things happen.
Sympathetic autonomic nervous system hyperactivity is only potentially beneficial for human wellbeing in short durations. A few minutes to a few days, at most. After that, chronic sympathetic autonomic hyperactivity becomes detrimental to all aspects of health. The natural response of the human mind and body to mental or physical stress, strain, pain, or trauma is to elevate sympathetic activity. Therefore, almost all physical therapy patients present with chronic sympathetic hyperactivity. Almost all psychotherapy patients present this way as well. Most of humanity presents this way, for that matter. This is a massive problem.
What research supports dry needling for neuromuscular rehabilitation?
Aside from the obvious everyday clinical evidence and real life experience with patients, hundreds of peer-reviewed studies show improvements in pain, mobility, and neuromuscular health following dry needling.
Can dry needling reduce dependency on pain medications?
Yes. By treating the root cause of pain, chronic sympathetic nervous system hyperactivity, rather than masking symptoms, dry needling can lower reliance on opioids and other drugs.
How does dry needling integrate with spinal manipulation in treatment plans?
When combined with manipulation, dry needling enhances nervous system regulation and accelerates recovery, creating a powerful dual approach.
